Who we are

Root is an independent application built for personal reflection using the Internal Family Systems (IFS) framework. Root is not a clinical service, a therapy platform, or a healthcare provider.

What we collect

We collect only what's needed to make Root work:

• Account information — your email address and name when you sign up
• Your parts map — the parts you add, their names, roles, and burdens
• Reflections and notes — what you write during engagement sessions
• Check-in data — intensity ratings and notes from daily check-ins
• Usage patterns — anonymized data about which features are used, to improve the app

We do not collect payment information, location data, or device identifiers beyond what your browser provides.

How we use your data

• To save and sync your parts map across devices
• To show you your history and past reflections
• To improve the app based on anonymized usage patterns
• To respond to support requests you send us

We do not read your personal journal entries or reflections. We do not use your content to train AI models. We do not sell your data to any third party.

AI companion

Root includes an optional AI reflection companion. When you use this feature, your messages are sent to a third-party AI provider to generate responses. These messages are not stored by Root beyond your current session.

The AI companion is not a therapist. It is not a crisis service. If you are in distress, please contact a qualified mental health professional or call 988.

Data storage and security

Your data is stored securely using Supabase, a cloud database provider. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. We follow industry-standard security practices.

Root is not HIPAA-compliant and should not be used as a clinical tool or to store protected health information.

Your rights

You can:

• Access all the data Root holds about you by contacting us
• Delete your account and all associated data at any time
• Export your reflections and notes on request
• Use Root without an account — data stays local to your device

Children

Root is intended for users 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to this policy

If we make significant changes to this policy, we will notify users by email or through a notice in the app. The date at the top of this page reflects when it was last updated.
